Otilia Gruneanțu Scriuba
is a mixed media artist interested
in colour, line, texture, spatiality
through layering, spontaneous ge-
stures, visible brushstrokes and sym-
bols, such as archetypal, cultural and
personal symbols. She creates com-
plex narrative artwork exploring the
unconscious, as well as her feelings
and emotions generated by different
personal events, places where she
lived or that she visited and occasio-
nally by some current issues, such as

racial conflict.
Otilia is a member of the National Association of Professional Artists from Ro-
mania (UAPR), Graphics Department and of Oakville ArtWorks Art Association
from Oakville, Canada.
She displayed her art in many juried international, national and local art shows,
in Canada, Romania, Italy, Spain, France, Mexico, Germany and Hungary. In
2017, she obtained the 3rd prize for Graphics at the 6th International Biennial
Art Show “Meeting Point” from Arad, Romania and in 2012 “The Most favou-
red artist” prize at Roncy Rocks Arts and Musical Festival in Toronto.
She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and Pedagogy of Arts and a bilingu-
al Master’s Degree in Romanian and French in Curatoring Cultural Projects,
both from the West University, Visual Arts Faculty, Timișoara, Romania. This
year Otilia has just started her 15th year as a teacher. Currently, she teaches
Visual Arts and French to high school students in Oakville. She completed all
the necessary courses for teaching in Canada at Queen’s University, Kingston,
Ontario.
She has been living in Toronto since 2008 with her husband, Octavian Scriuba.
They both love travelling. Nature and new cities are a source of inspiration
not just for Otilia, but for Octavian’s photographs, as well. Octavian holds a
Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design and has many years of experience as a
photographer, graphic designer and more recently as an arborist.
